Ageless Balance and Chair Yoga

Some people think that yoga is for the young, that yoga is for the flexible, that yoga is for those who can sit on a mat and bend themselves into impossible shapes, that yoga is not for them because they are neither young, nor flexible and have no hope of getting down on the floor. Yoga is for everyone, all ages, all abilities, all shapes and all sizes, and can be practiced throughout an entire lifetime. Whether you are 5 years old or 95 years old, yoga is for you. Yoga is for those who have limited mobility, those who may be recovering from an injury, and even if you are paralyzed in a wheelchair, yoga is for you too.

At Grace Tree we welcome all of you, with everything you bring to your yoga practice, whether you are brand new, have a basic knowledge of yoga or have been practicing for your entire life, are stiff as a board, can’t get down on the floor, or are stretchy and bendy, can stand on your head, and love putting yourself into a pretzel shape. We welcome the beauty of who you are, just as you are.

We now have a new class for all of you to try - Ageless Balance Chair Yoga. This class is for everyone. If you are new it will help you to practice a gentle form of yoga using a chair to sit on or to support you in various asanas (postures). If you are experienced, it will give you a different perspective on some asanas you are very familiar with, helping you to dig deeper, to work on your alignment. For everyone it will be a time to explore balance; finding balance in your life, in your feet, in your body.

Balance postures in yoga improve muscle strength and coordination as well as promote calmness, concentration and focus. After all, what can you possibly think about when you are trying to hold your foot up a few inches off the mat? It’s not going to be anything on your shopping list.

Balance postures help us to use both sides of our body, and build strength in our hips, legs, ankles and feet. With the build-up of strength we become more balanced and falls leading to injury are minimized. As we continue to practice balance poses, our posture and walking improve, and we become steadier in all parts of our life.

In this class we will explore all aspects of balance and chair yoga, and we will love our feet! How often do we take time out of our day to give our feet some love? Our feet carry us around all day long, and because they are so far away from our head we tend to forget about them unless they start to yell at us. We will learn to tune into our feet, find the lines of strength and balance, and discover that by rooting them down solidly into the earth we are able to stand strong and tall, dialing into our central core, which is the heart of our balance.

We invite you to come and dive in for some fun and exploration. This hour-long class begins on Thursday, February 27th at 10:30 am. Please sign up on line so we know you are coming and arrive at least 10 minutes before the class starts to get settled in.

Gracetree is wheelchair accessible. Because the teachings of this class are so essential and so comprehensive, we’ve decided to price it at $5.00 a class. We hope you take advantage of this incredible offer and find some balance in your life!

Namaste
